Yemeni Army Reports Drone Strikes Against Houthis In Marib

Fighting Intensifies In Marib As Yemeni Army Strikes Houthi Positions

The Yemeni army said Friday evening that it had conducted drone strikes against Houthi fighters and military vehicles in the central province of Marib.

According to a statement released by the army’s media center, the drones targeted Houthi personnel and vehicles positioned along frontlines northwest of Marib. The military also released video footage that it said showed the attacks and the destruction of several vehicles.

The army did not provide information about possible casualties or reveal how many drones were used in the operation.

As of 1700 GMT, the Houthis had not issued any response to the Yemeni army’s claims.

The Iran-backed Houthi movement seized large parts of Yemen in 2014, including the capital, Sanaa. The takeover led to years of conflict between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces, which were supported by a Saudi-led coalition.

Since the beginning of the Israel Gaza conflict in 2023, the Houthis have become increasingly involved in regional tensions. The group has launched missile attacks toward Israel and targeted commercial vessels in the Red Sea that it considers connected to Israel.

The recent escalation in fighting, alongside the continuing confrontation between Iran and the United States, has increased concerns that Yemen could once again experience a broader and more destructive conflict.
