DEL RIO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry successfully intercepted a large shipment of cocaine, valued at over $498,000, as part of their ongoing efforts to secure the nation’s borders.
The significant drug bust occurred on August 22nd at the Del Rio International Bridge. A CBP officer, conducting routine checks, flagged a Nissan Sports Utility Vehicle for a secondary inspection. During this enhanced examination, which included the use of a CBP canine unit and advanced non-intrusive inspection technology, officers discovered 14 packages concealed within a hidden compartment in the vehicle’s floorboard.
The packages contained over 37 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $498,645. The seizure marks another success in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking, highlighting the vigilance and dedication of CBP officers in preventing dangerous narcotics from entering the United States.
Port Director Liliana Flores praised the CBP team, stating, “This cocaine seizure illustrates our frontline officers’ commitment to securing our nation’s borders and preventing dangerous narcotics from entering the United States.”
Following the seizure, CBP confiscated the narcotics and turned the case over to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division. The driver of the vehicle was arrested, and a criminal investigation has been initiated to determine the full scope of the smuggling operation.
This seizure underscores the critical role that border security operations play in combating drug trafficking and protecting communities from the harmful effects of illegal narcotics.–News Desk
