Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have claimed 51 more lives, according to Palestinian medics, as the humanitarian crisis deepens in the war-torn region. The deadly raids included one on a multi-story building in Gaza City that killed at least 10 people, while other strikes in Deir al-Balah and Jabalia resulted in more casualties. This brings the total death toll to nearly 46,000, with over 100,000 people injured since the conflict began.
As the conflict escalates, the Red Cross has urgently called for unrestricted access to Gaza, warning that the worsening conditions are taking a severe toll on civilians. Heavy rain and flooding have exacerbated the crisis, leaving displaced families living in waterlogged shelters. The IFRC also highlighted the tragic deaths of newborns who succumbed to freezing temperatures, underscoring the critical need for aid.
Despite these dire conditions, Israel and Hamas remain at an impasse over a ceasefire, with the Palestinian group demanding Israel’s withdrawal before negotiations can proceed. The Red Cross has emphasized the importance of allowing humanitarian workers into Gaza, as without safe access, children could freeze to death and families risk starvation.
Efforts to broker a ceasefire continue, with the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt working to mediate a deal before the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump takes office, though a resolution remains elusive.
