BEIJING: At least 10 people lost their lives and 23 others were injured after a sudden flash flood swept through a popular tourist destination in northwestern China’s Gansu province on Sunday, according to state media.
The disaster struck Weiyuan County in Dingxi City after intense rainfall triggered a powerful surge of floodwaters, catching visitors and local residents off guard.
Several tourists camping in the scenic area became trapped as the flood rapidly inundated the site, prompting an urgent rescue operation.
Local authorities immediately mobilised police, emergency responders and specialised rescue teams to search for stranded individuals and assist those affected by the flooding.
Rescue efforts remained underway as officials assessed the extent of the damage and monitored weather conditions for the possibility of further heavy rainfall. Authorities have urged residents and visitors to remain alert as emergency services continue recovery and relief operations.
