In response to the devastating impact of Hurricane Debby, Florida National Guardsmen have been deployed to assist affected residents across the state. In north-central Florida’s Suwannee County, soldiers from the 868th Engineer Company conducted high-water rescue operations today, ensuring the safety of residents stranded by severe flooding.
Governor Ron DeSantis had ordered the mobilization of National Guard soldiers and airmen on August 1, ahead of the storm’s landfall. Over 3,000 Guardsmen were activated to ensure rapid and effective response to the hurricane’s threats.
“You can’t wait until the storm hits to call up the Guard, so we get our people in uniform and into position ahead of time,” stated Army Col. Jeremey Davis, commander of the 50th Regional Support Group. This proactive approach allowed the National Guard to be on the ground and ready to assist as soon as the storm struck, highlighting the importance of preparedness in disaster response efforts.–News Desk
