WASHINGTON – Talks between the United States and Iran are solely focused on nuclear issues and the potential for lifting economic sanctions, according to recent statements from officials. The discussions have primarily centered on Iran’s nuclear program, with both sides seeking a path forward to reduce tensions in the region.
In a related development, Pentagon Chief Lloyd Austin emphasized that the US military is prepared to take action to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Austin’s remarks underscored Washington’s commitment to ensuring Iran never develops nuclear capabilities and its willingness to consider military options if necessary.
The US and Iran have been engaged in a delicate diplomatic process aimed at reviving the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which has been in jeopardy since the US withdrew in 2018 under the Trump administration.
