Macron Dismisses Rumors After Viral ‘Slap’ Video Involving Wife in Vietnam
May 26, 2025 | Hanoi — French President Emmanuel Macron has denied claims of a personal dispute with his wife, Brigitte Macron, after a video circulated online allegedly showing her slapping him during their visit to Vietnam. The brief clip sparked widespread speculation and trended globally on social media platforms.
A spokesperson for the Élysée Palace labeled the rumors as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that the video was misinterpreted. “There was no argument,” Macron stated during a press conference in Hanoi. “My wife and I are completely fine. What you saw was taken out of context.”
This marks the third viral video involving Macron this month. French officials have expressed growing concern over the rise in online disinformation, particularly amid heightened tensions from Russia’s ongoing military actions in Ukraine.
France’s cybersecurity agency has also warned that false narratives are increasingly being used to influence public opinion and destabilize democratic institutions.
