Turkey Mobilizes Hundreds to Contain Canakkale Fires

Strong Winds Intensify Wildfires in Northwestern Turkey

Canakkale, Turkey — Authorities have evacuated hundreds of people as fast-moving wildfires spread through Turkey’s northwestern Canakkale province.

Emergency teams deployed around 700 firefighters, aircraft, and vehicles to contain the flames. The fires forced the evacuation of university campuses, residential neighborhoods, and military bases in the affected areas.

Officials said the strong winds and dry conditions have made firefighting efforts more challenging. Aerial units continued water drops as ground crews worked to create firebreaks to stop the blaze from advancing.

The Canakkale governor’s office confirmed that precautionary measures remain in place and urged residents to follow evacuation orders and stay clear of danger zones until the fires are brought under control.
