Ceasefire Diplomacy Drives Lebanon Israel Discussions

Lebanon Leadership Reviews Israel Talks Strategy

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held discussions on Saturday focused on ongoing US-mediated military negotiations with Israel, according to a statement from the Lebanese Presidency.

The leadership reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing a ceasefire during the talks, which are being facilitated by the United States as part of broader diplomatic efforts between the two countries.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for the next round of negotiations with Israel, scheduled to take place next Tuesday and Wednesday, as part of continuing diplomatic engagement.

In addition to the talks, officials discussed the internal security situation in Lebanon, including monitoring conditions affecting civilians displaced from their homes amid ongoing tensions.

Earlier in the week, the Pentagon hosted military delegations from both Lebanon and Israel, supporting dialogue aimed at reducing hostilities and stabilizing the border region.

Since mid-April, several rounds of direct and indirect talks have taken place between Beirut and Tel Aviv, reflecting ongoing international efforts to sustain a ceasefire agreement that has faced repeated violations.

Despite diplomatic progress, reports from Lebanese authorities indicate that continued hostilities have resulted in significant casualties and displacement since early March, underscoring the fragile security situation in the region.
