Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Sunday that confidence in BRICS among Global South countries has grown as global tensions continue to rise.
Speaking at the expanded BRICS session in New Delhi, Modi said the bloc was working to promote inclusive global growth and ensure that its solutions could be adapted and made accessible to countries across the Global South.
He highlighted the impact of the pandemic, climate-related disasters and supply chain disruptions, saying these crises demonstrated how closely connected the world has become. As a result, BRICS has focused on strengthening resilience across different sectors.
Modi said the growing participation of countries in the summit reflected the bloc’s increasing influence and appeal. He stressed that BRICS draws strength from its diversity and cooperation and that its progress should benefit humanity as a whole.
The bloc has also agreed to establish an integrated early warning system for infectious diseases. According to Modi, guidelines for sharing early warning data in disaster management have also been prepared.
He added that a BRICS logistics supply chain framework would make supply networks more dependable, while the BRICS Incubator Network would connect startups and innovation centres. A digital agriculture network is also expected to create new opportunities for farmers.
Modi warned that the misuse of technology and critical minerals could hinder sustainable development and said BRICS was therefore promoting inclusive access to technological progress.
