Norway’s Crown Princess Faces Possible Lung Transplant

Norway’s Crown Princess May Require Lung Transplant as Health Declines

Norway’s royal household has announced that Crown Princess Mette-Marit is likely to need a lung transplant after a noticeable decline in her health over recent months.

Condition Has Progressed

The Crown Princess, aged 52, received a diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis in 2018. The disease causes scar tissue to form in the lungs, which reduces their flexibility and makes breathing increasingly difficult.

According to the palace, medical tests carried out in the autumn showed a clear worsening of her condition.

Doctors Signal Transplant May Be Necessary

Speaking on behalf of Oslo University Hospital, Are Martin Holm, head of respiratory medicine, said doctors are approaching a critical stage. “We are reaching the point where a lung transplant will be necessary,” he said.

As a result, medical teams are closely monitoring the princess while preparing for possible next steps in her treatment.

Princess Shares Personal Update

Meanwhile, Crown Princess Mette-Marit spoke to public broadcaster NRK, saying her illness had progressed more quickly than expected. She acknowledged the emotional challenge of facing an uncertain medical future.

Despite her condition, the palace said she continues to receive care and support while adjusting her public duties as needed.
