UN Security Council adopts resolution condemning Iran attacks on Gulf states
Council approves measure with strong support
The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution condemning attacks carried out by Iran against several Gulf countries and Jordan.
The resolution passed with 13 votes in favor, while Russia and China abstained from the vote.
Bahrain introduced the proposal and secured broad international backing. In total, 135 countries co-sponsored the resolution, showing strong global support for the measure.
Resolution highlights sovereignty concerns
The document expressed strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council as well as Jordan.
In addition, the resolution strongly condemned what it described as attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against these countries. According to the text, the attacks represent a violation of international law and pose a serious threat to global peace and security.
Civilian infrastructure damage criticized
The resolution also condemned strikes that targeted civilian infrastructure, which resulted in casualties and damage to residential and public buildings.
Council members stressed that such attacks endanger civilians and increase instability across the region.
Bahrain welcomes council decision
Following the vote, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei welcomed the adoption of the resolution.
He said the decision demonstrated the Security Council’s commitment to protecting international peace and security. He also thanked the 135 countries that supported the proposal.
According to Alrowaiei, the large number of co-sponsors shows that the international community recognizes the seriousness of the attacks and the risks they pose to regional stability.
