Escalating tensions in southern Lebanon were underscored after Hezbollah claimed responsibility for two drone strikes targeting Israeli military assets.
In separate statements, the group reported that one drone attack struck an Israeli tank in the town of Al-Qantara, while another targeted a bulldozer engaged in demolition activities in Bint Jbeil. Hezbollah asserted that both operations resulted in direct hits.
The group said the strikes were carried out in retaliation for what it described as repeated ceasefire violations by Israel, including military actions against southern villages and the destruction of civilian homes.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed that one drone exploded near its forces and another was intercepted, noting that no casualties were reported.
The latest developments come amid a fragile ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, which has faced multiple alleged breaches. According to Lebanese authorities, ongoing hostilities since early March have resulted in over 2,500 deaths and displaced more than 1.6 million people.
A temporary 10-day truce was established on April 17 and later extended following diplomatic talks. Donald Trump announced that both sides agreed to prolong the ceasefire by an additional three weeks after negotiations in Washington.
The situation continues to reflect the volatility of the region, with periodic flare-ups threatening broader escalation despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
