WEST KELOWNA: An out-of-control wildfire burning north of West Kelowna has prompted evacuation alerts for more than 500 properties in British Columbia’s Central Okanagan, forcing residents and visitors to prepare for a possible emergency evacuation.
According to Central Okanagan Emergency Management, the evacuation alert covers more than 1,100 people in the La Casa area on the western shore of Okanagan Lake. The affected zone includes La Casa Lakeside Resort and La Casa Cottages, both popular destinations during the summer holiday season.
Emergency officials have instructed those under the alert to be ready to leave at short notice and to prepare for the possibility of being away from their homes or accommodation for an extended period.
The wildfire, which was recently discovered, remains out of control, with firefighters closely monitoring its movement and weather conditions that could influence its spread.
Authorities continue to assess the situation while urging residents and visitors to stay informed through official emergency updates and follow evacuation instructions if conditions worsen.
Emergency crews remain on standby as efforts continue to contain the blaze and protect nearby communities from the advancing wildfire.
