A wildfire on the Greek island of Salamina, located near Athens, has killed two people and injured several others, according to local media reports.
The two victims were discovered in a wooded area in Peristeria after the fire broke out around midday on Sunday. Authorities have not yet established their identities.
Five other people suffered burns and were rescued before being taken to the Salamina Health Center for medical treatment.
Firefighters, assisted by local volunteers, were deployed in large numbers to contain the blaze. However, strong winds in the area made firefighting operations more difficult and increased the challenge of controlling the spreading flames.
The Coast Guard also sent five vessels, alongside several privately owned boats, to support evacuation efforts and help residents move away from areas threatened by the wildfire.
