A new poll suggests that Albertans remain strongly divided over the question of separation from Canada, although a clear majority continues to support staying within the country.
With less than 50 days remaining before the October referendum, the Research Co. survey conducted in August found that 74% of respondents would vote for Alberta to remain part of Canada. Meanwhile, 22% supported beginning the legal process for a second binding referendum on independence.
Support for holding another referendum was strongest among Albertans aged 35 to 54, with 27% backing the proposal. Among people aged 55 and above, 20% supported another vote, while 18% of those aged 18 to 34 expressed support.
The findings indicate that opinions on Alberta’s future remain firmly divided, with most residents favouring continued membership in Canada despite ongoing debate over provincial independence.
