Israeli forces reportedly fired four artillery shells Thursday at areas surrounding Bat al-Warda hill near Beit Jinn in the western countryside of Damascus, according to Syrian state media.
Syrian Alikhbaria TV reported that the shelling targeted the area near the hill. There were no immediate reports of deaths, injuries or property damage, while Syrian authorities had not issued an official statement about the incident.
The same area was reportedly targeted several days earlier, shortly after Syrian and Israeli officials held talks in Jordan under US mediation. The meeting was aimed at reducing tensions following Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and growing instability in southern Syria.
Southern parts of Syria, particularly Quneitra and Daraa, have experienced frequent Israeli military activity, including raids, searches, arrests and the establishment of checkpoints.
Israel has controlled much of the Golan Heights since 1967. Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, Israel declared the 1974 disengagement agreement no longer valid and moved into the Syrian buffer zone and other strategic positions, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon.
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said in July that his government was working with several countries to reach a security agreement with Israel. He said a successful agreement could help create conditions for broader peace while maintaining Syria’s claim to the occupied Golan Heights.
