Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday that he expects to meet US President Donald Trump’s representatives in Kyiv within the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to revive Russia Ukraine peace negotiations.
In a video address, Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s negotiating team was preparing for discussions with the American side and that preliminary dates had been established for the US envoys’ visit to Kyiv. The representatives are also expected to travel to Moscow for talks with Russian officials.
Zelenskyy stressed that continued US involvement would be important for efforts to bring the war to an end. He did not provide further details about the planned meetings, while Washington and Moscow had not publicly commented on the proposed visits.
Russia and Ukraine last participated in US mediated peace talks earlier this year, holding three rounds of negotiations in Abu Dhabi and Geneva. The discussions were later suspended, with both sides pointing to Washington’s focus on the conflict involving Iran as one factor.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have made several trips to Moscow since the negotiations began but have not yet visited Kyiv. Their most recent Moscow visit was in January, when they met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.
