WASHINGTON, October 14, 2026 — US Senator Jon Ossoff said Tuesday that he has no plans to seek the presidency in 2028, emphasizing that his current priority is winning re-election to the Senate.
Speaking during a debate against his Republican challenger, Representative Mike Collins, the Georgia Democrat firmly dismissed speculation about a future presidential campaign. He also confirmed that, if re-elected, he would serve the entire six-year Senate term.
Ossoff has frequently been mentioned as a possible Democratic presidential contender for the 2028 election. However, his latest remarks made clear that he intends to concentrate on retaining his Senate seat.
The debate marked the final face-off between Ossoff and Collins before the November 3 midterm elections. The contest is considered significant in determining which party will control the US Senate.
The debate took place on the first day of early voting in Georgia. Ossoff had cast his ballot earlier that Tuesday in Atlanta.
