Amazon to invest $4B in AI company Anthropic

Amazon announced a $4 billion investment in AI company Anthropic on Friday, deepening their strategic partnership. Anthropic will utilize Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its main cloud provider, using AWS’s Trainium and Inferentia chips to enhance its AI models. Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, stated that the collaboration aims to advance the potential of generative AI technologies. Anthropic, known for its Claude AI models, competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This new investment adds to Amazon’s previous investments in Anthropic, totaling $8 billion following earlier commitments of $1.25 billion in September 2023 and $2.75 billion in March 2024.
