Austin Reacts to Passage of Continuing Resolution

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin expressed relief as Congress passed another Continuing Resolution, averting a government shutdown that would have severely impacted national security and the Department of Defense. Austin emphasized that this measure ensures troops and civilian workers will continue to receive pay, but it also highlighted the ongoing challenge of operating under temporary funding measures. With 48 Continuing Resolutions in the past 15 years, Austin stressed that relying on stopgap solutions hinders the Department’s ability to plan effectively, recruit new talent, and address emerging security challenges. Despite this, he remains hopeful that long-term solutions can provide a more stable foundation for the future of U.S. defense.
