Azerbaijan and UAE Sign Letter of Intent on Defense Cooperation
Bilateral Talks Strengthen Strategic Partnership
During a working visit to Abu Dhabi on Monday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed a letter of intent on defense cooperation, signaling closer military ties between the two nations.
According to a statement from the Azerbaijani presidency, the leaders also signed a document regarding the sale of a portion of Azerbaijan’s non-controlling stake in Southern Gas Corridor CJSC to XRG, the international investment arm of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
Joint Military Exercises and Future Collaboration
The statement highlighted that both presidents emphasized the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the UAE and discussed the prospects for future cooperation. They also reviewed the Peace Shield-2026 joint military exercise, held in the UAE on February 2–3.
Aliyev and Al Nahyan expressed confidence that the exercises would enhance military interoperability between their armed forces and agreed on the importance of continuing such exercises in the future.
Expanding Bilateral Relations
The leaders noted that the two signed agreements will further strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UAE. Discussions also included the possibility of establishing twinning relations between Baku and Abu Dhabi, promoting deeper economic and cultural ties.
