Xi Urges Partnership As Trump Arrives In Beijing For High-Stakes Talks
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for stronger cooperation between Beijing and Washington during a major summit with US President Donald Trump in the Chinese capital, stressing that both nations benefit more from partnership than confrontation.
Speaking at the historic Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi said the world’s two largest economies should pursue mutual success and long-term stability at a time of rising global uncertainty.
The Chinese leader described the current international environment as turbulent and transformative, warning that the world had reached a critical turning point. He emphasized that both powers carry enormous responsibility in shaping global peace, economic stability and international cooperation.
Xi stated that China and the United States must work together to establish a modern framework for relations between major global powers while addressing shared challenges affecting the wider international community.
Highlighting the importance of economic collaboration, Xi said recent discussions between trade officials from both countries produced balanced and encouraging outcomes, calling the progress beneficial for global markets and both populations.
The summit agenda included discussions surrounding Taiwan, tariffs, trade disputes and tensions in the Middle East following recent regional conflicts involving Iran, Israel and US allies.
Trump arrived in Beijing alongside senior officials including Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth, as well as influential American business leaders from major corporations.
The delegation featured executives such as Elon Musk, Tim Cook, Jensen Huang and financial leaders from global investment giants including BlackRock and Goldman Sachs.
Xi expressed optimism that 2026 could become a historic milestone for bilateral relations, signaling hopes for a renewed chapter in cooperation between the world’s two most influential powers.
The visit comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions across the Middle East, where a fragile ceasefire currently remains in place following months of escalating military conflict. China has repeatedly advocated diplomatic dialogue, while Washington continues accusing Beijing of indirectly supporting Iran’s strategic capabilities.
