WASHINGTON – Following a series of deadly attacks on New Year’s Day, President Joe Biden assured the nation that terrorist groups like ISIS would not find refuge on American soil.
During remarks on judicial confirmations, Biden vowed to continue the fight against terrorist organizations, stating, “They’ll find no safe harbor here.” His comments came after a pickup truck drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, and a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. Both incidents were linked to veterans: Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, was identified as the New Orleans attacker, while Matthew Livelsberger, 37, was named in the Las Vegas explosion.
Biden met with Vice President Kamala Harris and his homeland security team to discuss the ongoing investigations. While there was no evidence connecting the two incidents, the investigation continues. The FBI confirmed there is no indication that others were involved in the New Orleans attack.
Biden’s strong statement underscores the US administration’s commitment to confronting terrorism and preventing any group from using the country as a base of operations. The investigations into these separate attacks are ongoing, and authorities are determined to identify the full scope of these incidents.
