Bomb Threat Forces Diversion of Hajj Pilgrims’ Plane in Indonesia
A plane carrying hundreds of Hajj pilgrims returning to Indonesia from the Middle East was diverted on Saturday following a bomb threat, according to the country’s transport ministry and police. It marks the second such security scare involving a Hajj flight in less than a week.
The aircraft was rerouted to Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, North Sumatra, where authorities safely evacuated passengers and conducted a full security inspection. No explosives were found onboard.
Indonesian officials said the threat was received by air traffic control in Jakarta and treated as credible. Security forces are now investigating the source of the call and its potential link to the earlier bomb scare.
The incident has raised concerns over flight safety during the busy Hajj travel season. Authorities have since increased airport and in-flight security protocols across the country.
