A tragic plane crash in California on Thursday claimed the lives of two people and left 18 others injured when a small aircraft plunged into a commercial building near Fullerton Municipal Airport, roughly 40 kilometers southeast of Los Angeles.
The crash occurred early in the afternoon, leaving a gaping hole in the building’s roof as smoke billowed from the wreckage. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where 10 individuals were hospitalized, and another eight were treated on-site.
“There are two confirmed fatalities,” Fullerton police announced on X, though investigators remain uncertain if the deceased were aboard the aircraft or working inside the building at the time of impact.
Local television footage revealed the chaotic aftermath, with debris strewn across the area and firefighters working tirelessly to control the situation. Police have yet to determine the cause of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses described the moment as surreal, with the sound of the impact shaking the area and smoke quickly filling the air. Authorities are working to piece together what led to the tragic event and to identify the victims.
The incident has raised concerns about aviation safety in the densely populated area surrounding the airport. While Fullerton Municipal Airport is known for handling small aircraft, crashes of this magnitude are rare, leaving the community in shock.
As the investigation continues, local residents mourn the loss of life and hope for answers to prevent such tragedies in the future.
