EAGLE PASS, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry successfully intercepted more than $267,000 worth of heroin during an enforcement operation this past weekend.
The seizure took place on October 19 at the Camino Real International Bridge when a 2015 Ford van was referred for a secondary inspection. Utilizing a combination of experience, advanced inspection technology, and the assistance of a CBP canine unit, officers discovered five packages containing nearly 16 pounds of alleged heroin concealed within the vehicle. The narcotics are estimated to have a street value of $267,414.
Port Director Pete Beattie emphasized the importance of the continued vigilance of CBP officers in intercepting narcotics. “This significant heroin seizure reflects the effectiveness of utilizing inspection experience and technology to interdict hard narcotics loads like these,” Beattie said.
Following the discovery, CBP seized both the narcotics and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.–News Desk
