OTS Secretary General Applauds Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit
Istanbul, October 15, 2025 — The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Secretary General, Kubanychbek Omuraliev, praised the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt. The summit followed a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid
Omuraliev highlighted that world leaders attended the summit on October 13. The event followed diplomatic efforts by the United States, Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt.
He said, “I hope the ceasefire will stop hostilities in Gaza. It should also allow humanitarian aid to reach people immediately and without obstruction.”
Opportunity for a Two-State Solution
The Secretary General expressed hope that the summit could open the way for a two-state solution. This solution would allow Palestinians and Israelis to live side by side in peace and security.
First Phase of the Gaza Ceasefire
The first phase of the ceasefire, under US President Donald Trump’s plan, began on Friday. Key developments include:
-
Hamas released 20 Israeli captives.
-
Israel freed nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
-
Israeli troops withdrew from densely populated areas.
-
Humanitarian aid began entering Gaza.
Next Steps in the Peace Plan
Later phases aim to:
-
Demilitarize Hamas.
-
Establish a temporary technocratic government.
-
Deploy an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to secure Gaza’s borders.
Omuraliev urged all parties to use this opportunity wisely. He emphasized that international cooperation and sustained commitment are essential to achieving lasting peace in the region.
