Claims of Tory Lanez’s innocence in the Megan Thee Stallion case are false

Tory Lanez’s efforts to appeal his conviction for shooting Megan Thee Stallion took a notable step this week.

On Wednesday, October 23, Lanez’s legal team submitted a petition for a writ of habeas corpus, asking a federal court to assess the legality of his imprisonment. Then, on Friday, October 25, the court announced it would consider this habeas corpus petition alongside Lanez’s ongoing appeal and a previous motion for habeas corpus. The Attorney General is expected to provide an initial response to the new petition by November 20.

In light of online rumors suggesting that the court’s decision indicates Lanez’s innocence, independent journalist Meghann Cuniff clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that the court has not made any rulings. Cuniff noted that the court is simply consolidating Lanez’s appeal and habeas corpus petition for simultaneous review, without reaching any conclusions.
