Pakistan calls to stop rights abuses in IIOJK

UNITED NATIONS:
Pakistan has urged the global community to advocate for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination through a UN-sponsored plebiscite, as specified in UN Security Council resolutions, and to take action against human rights violations in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s deputy permanent representative to the UN, drew attention to the critical situation in occupied Palestine, where residents are deprived of essential human rights, including self-determination. He condemned the illegal expansion of settlements, the excessive use of force by Israeli forces, and the blockade of Gaza, labeling these actions as significant violations requiring immediate international response.

In his speech to the General Assembly’s Third Committee on ‘Promotion and Protection of Human Rights,’ Jadoon pointed out that human rights abuses in Occupied Kashmir—such as excessive force, enforced disappearances, and arbitrary detentions—have been extensively documented by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and various Human Rights Council mechanisms. He noted that these violations have worsened following India’s unilateral measures on August 5, 2019.

Jadoon stressed that while the international community prioritizes civil and political rights, economic, social, and cultural rights often receive inadequate attention. He asserted that addressing the root causes of human rights violations—such as poverty, hunger, and inequality—is essential, as this neglect hampers developing nations’ efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and make meaningful progress in human rights.
