On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant visited the Philadelphi route in the Gaza Strip, where he emphasized the importance of staying focused on the goals of the ongoing conflict. During his visit, Gallant highlighted the defeat of the Hamas Rafah brigade and the destruction of over 150 tunnels in the region.
Minister Gallant joined troops from the IDF’s Division 162, who are currently deployed in the Rafah area. He conducted an operational situation assessment with senior IDF officials, receiving updates on the recent military activities that led to the defeat of the Hamas Rafah division and the extensive tunnel destruction.
Gallant instructed the forces to prioritize the complete destruction of the remaining tunnels in the area. He expressed his appreciation for the troops’ efforts, noting that approximately 100 of the destroyed tunnels were trenches dug above ground and then covered with dirt.
In his remarks, Gallant stressed the need to remain committed to the war’s objectives, particularly concerning Hamas and the hostages held by the organization. He also alluded to broader strategic concerns, including the situation in the north.
“I gave an immediate directive to the IDF to destroy the remaining tunnels. It is critical to remember the goals of the war and to achieve them – regarding Hamas, regarding the hostages, and we also understand why we are looking toward the north,” Gallant stated.–News Desk
