Schumer Leads Senate Move Block Anti Weaponization Fund

US Senate Clash Over $1.8 Billion Government Fund Proposal

Chuck Schumer announced that Senate Democrats will introduce legislation aimed at blocking what they describe as President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund.”

Speaking on the Senate floor, Schumer stated that lawmakers plan to eliminate the fund entirely and prevent any future administration from reviving a similar mechanism. He characterized the proposal as a misuse of public resources and pledged decisive legislative action during the current session.

The fund reportedly emerged from a settlement linked to legal disputes involving Trump, his family members, and the Trump Organization over tax disclosure issues and alleged government misconduct. Although the White House has suggested the initiative will not proceed, Schumer argued that formal legislation is necessary to permanently prohibit it.

He rejected assurances that the plan has been abandoned, insisting that political statements alone are insufficient to guarantee its cancellation. According to him, the proposal represents a serious ethical concern that requires congressional intervention.

Schumer also criticized Republican lawmakers for not adequately challenging the fund and emphasized that Democrats intend to force a vote on the issue to ensure accountability.

In response, the U.S. Department of Justice said it would comply with a federal court ruling that temporarily halted the fund, while maintaining disagreement with the decision.
