Energy Ministers Address Future Challenges at Istanbul Energy Forum

Energy ministers convened in Istanbul on Friday to discuss pressing challenges and opportunities for building a resilient energy future. The forum, themed “Common Future, Common Goals,” was organized by Anadolu in collaboration with Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.

Energy Resilience and Security
Moderated by Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, the forum addressed critical issues such as geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and climate change impacts. Bayraktar emphasized the urgent need for sustainable energy investments, technological advancements, and collaboration to overcome vulnerabilities and foster energy security.

Regional Cooperation and Security
Georgia’s Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili highlighted regional cooperation as vital for energy resilience, urging investments in renewables, infrastructure, and energy trade. He noted ongoing efforts to harmonize legislation among neighboring countries to enhance trade and stability.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stressed the importance of national sovereignty in energy decisions, rejecting external interference and warning against actions that compromise energy security.

Country-Specific Initiatives

Serbia’s Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic outlined the country’s focus on balancing geopolitical pressures, securing gas supplies, and expanding hydropower and energy storage projects.
Uzbekistan’s Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov highlighted successful regional collaborations, such as joint hydropower ventures and renewable energy initiatives with Central Asian neighbors and Europe.
Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov underlined the need for stronger partnerships and expanded regional projects, particularly in natural gas infrastructure.
Libya’s Oil Minister Khalifa Abdulsadek discussed the country’s ambitions to increase natural gas and oil production, reduce emissions, and enhance energy exports to Europe.
Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov emphasized strategic regional partnerships and co-investments to bolster energy security and affordability.
Moldova’s Energy Minister Victor Parlicov called for interconnected, depoliticized energy markets to facilitate renewable energy integration and attract investment.
The forum showcased a shared commitment to advancing energy security through regional collaboration, sustainable practices, and innovation amid global challenges.
