EU launches West Bank victims support program

The European Union has introduced a new assistance program aimed at supporting victims of violence in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The initiative is designed to strengthen protection measures for Palestinians amid rising incidents of violence in the territory. The announcement was made during a visit by EU Representative to Palestine Alexandre Stutzmann, alongside EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christophe Bigot and a delegation of foreign diplomats who visited the village of al-Mughayyir near Ramallah.

Stutzmann described recent attacks affecting Palestinians as a serious warning sign, stating that while such incidents could not be prevented, efforts must now focus on ensuring they are not repeated. He added that the EU is evaluating additional political and practical steps, including the rollout of a victim support mechanism.

The program is expected to involve volunteer-based field support teams intended to assist in civilian protection, alongside the development of a coordinated system to improve safety for local communities. Specific operational details have not yet been disclosed.

The announcement comes amid growing international concern over escalating violence in the West Bank and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect civilians.

Earlier this month, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported the deaths of two Palestinians, including a child, in al-Mughayyir following gunfire incidents attributed to Israeli occupiers.
