Pakistan Reaffirms Solidarity with Saudi Arabia Following Red Sea Security Threats
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the country’s full support for Saudi Arabia following reported attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, emphasizing the importance of regional security and the protection of international maritime routes.
During a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sharif strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as unacceptable and warning that such actions violate international law, threaten freedom of navigation, and endanger regional peace and stability.
According to official statements, the two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in promoting security across the Red Sea, the Strait of Hormuz, and surrounding maritime corridors. They also stressed the need to ensure the uninterrupted flow of lawful international trade through these strategically important waterways.
The conversation followed claims by Yemen’s Houthi movement that it had carried out attacks targeting two Saudi oil tankers using missiles and drones. The developments have heightened concerns over the security of global shipping routes and the potential impact on international energy supplies.
Earlier this week, Pakistan stated that it reserves the right to take all necessary measures, consistent with international law, to protect its maritime assets and national interests in the Red Sea. Islamabad also reiterated its commitment to dialogue and regional de-escalation while maintaining its longstanding strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia.
The latest exchange between Islamabad and Riyadh underscores the close cooperation between the two countries as regional tensions continue to affect maritime security and global commerce.
