Fidan, Lavrov Discuss Syria Situation Talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone conversation on Saturday with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss the latest developments in Syria. The two ministers focused on the evolving situation in the country, addressing key regional concerns and diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing Syria.

According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the conversation also included discussions on the Astana process, a diplomatic initiative established in 2017 by Turkey, Russia, and Iran aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the Syrian conflict. The process has involved multiple rounds of talks and ceasefire agreements, though the situation in Syria remains complex with ongoing military operations and humanitarian challenges.

The discussion comes at a critical time as Syria continues to deal with both internal and external challenges, including the presence of foreign military forces, humanitarian crises, and the resurgence of extremist groups. Turkey and Russia, both key players in the Syrian conflict, have collaborated on various aspects of the conflict, sometimes supporting opposing sides, but they have also worked together on de-escalation efforts and shared security concerns, particularly regarding Kurdish forces in northern Syria.

The outcome of this conversation reflects the continued diplomatic engagement between Turkey and Russia in efforts to manage and resolve the multifaceted Syrian crisis.
