Global Steel Production Sees Modest Growth in November

Global crude steel production saw a modest 0.8% increase in November, reaching 146.8 million tons, according to the World Steel Association. This uptick reflects a mixed performance across major steel producers.

China, maintaining its position as the world’s largest steel producer, led the charge with a 2.5% growth, producing a staggering 78.4 million tons. India, the second-largest producer, also showed strong performance, with a 4.5% rise to 12.4 million tons.

However, the outlook was less favorable for several other key producers. Japan’s output fell by 3.1%, reaching 6.9 million tons, while the U.S. saw a 2.8% dip, producing 6.4 million tons. Russia experienced a sharp decline of 9.2%, with production dropping to 5.5 million tons, and South Korea saw a 3.6% reduction, totaling 5.2 million tons.

In Europe, Germany stood out with an 8.6% rise in production, reaching 2.9 million tons, while Türkiye saw a modest 0.7% increase, producing 3 million tons.

As of January-November, global steel production dropped by 1.4%, totaling 1.7 billion tons, reflecting the complex dynamics shaping the global steel industry.
