Immigration Minister Marc Miller criticized the efforts of discontented Liberal MPs to remove Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, labeling their actions as “garbage.” He emphasized that the party should unite against their primary opponent, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.
“Every minute spent on this issue detracts from focusing on Pierre Poilievre and his agenda for the country, which is very dangerous,” Miller told reporters before a cabinet meeting. He urged the MPs contemplating a revolt to confront Trudeau directly, asserting, “They need to express their concerns to his face.” He expressed confidence that the majority of the caucus and the entire cabinet support the Prime Minister.
As national polls indicate a potential defeat for the Liberals in the next election, dissatisfaction with Trudeau’s leadership is growing among some MPs, leading them to prepare for a confrontation at Wednesday’s national caucus meeting. With Trudeau’s popularity declining after nine years in power, the CBC Poll Tracker shows the Conservatives leading by 19 points, suggesting that many Liberal MPs could lose their positions in the upcoming vote. Reports indicate that over 20 MPs have secretly convened and signed a document committing to efforts to remove Trudeau, although MP Ken McDonald clarified that this letter should not be seen as a “threat.”
