Volcanic Eruption Sends Ash 1.5km High, Triggers Safety Warnings

Mount Marapi Erupts in Indonesia, Prompting Safety Alerts

Indonesia’s Mount Marapi erupted on Thursday, unleashing a towering ash plume that soared 1.5 kilometers (4,900 feet) above its summit. Timelapse CCTV footage captured the dramatic scene as volcanic ash billowed into the sky.

Authorities have classified the eruption at level two—the third-highest alert level—mandating a 3-kilometer (9,800-foot) exclusion zone around the volcano for public safety.

As one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, Mount Marapi has a history of deadly eruptions. A previous eruption in 2023 tragically claimed the lives of at least 24 climbers. Officials continue to monitor the situation, urging residents and travelers to stay vigilant.
