Israel Intercepts Aid Ship Carrying Greta Thunberg and Activists
Israeli authorities intercepted an aid vessel carrying environmental activist Greta Thunberg and other campaigners as it attempted to reach the Gaza Strip. The ship was safely redirected to Israel’s shores late Sunday, according to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
Israel’s Defense Minister reiterated that the naval blockade of Gaza remains in place to prevent the entry of weapons and maintain security. The Ministry of Defense stated that the passengers on board are expected to return to their home countries, while any humanitarian supplies aboard the vessel will be transferred to Gaza through official channels.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which organized the mission to deliver aid and protest Israel’s blockade and military actions in Gaza, condemned the interception. The group accused Israeli forces of unlawfully boarding the ship, detaining its civilian crew, and confiscating essential supplies including baby formula, food, and medical items.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the Gaza blockade and efforts by international activists to challenge it.
