German airline giant Lufthansa has extended its suspension of flights to Tel Aviv until June 15, citing escalating regional tensions and growing security concerns. The move follows a surge in missile strikes launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels in response to Israel’s intensified military operations in Gaza.
The airline group, which includes Austrian Airlines and SWISS, initially halted its services to Israel amid heightened instability in the region. With the situation deteriorating further, Lufthansa announced the extension as a precautionary measure to safeguard passengers and crew.
The ongoing conflict, marked by Israel’s renewed air and ground offensive in Gaza, has triggered broader unrest across the Middle East. The Houthi attacks, targeting Israeli-linked interests, have raised alarms over regional spillover and airspace safety.
Lufthansa stated it continues to closely monitor developments in coordination with international aviation authorities. The airline emphasized that it will resume operations only when security conditions allow for safe travel.
This decision underscores growing concerns in the aviation industry about the volatile situation and its impact on international routes across the region.
