Gary, IN – On August 17th and 18th, the City of Gary, in collaboration with the Gary/Chicago International Airport (GCIA) and the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority (SSCVA), will proudly host the Gary Air Show along the scenic South Shore of Lake Michigan. The event, taking place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, promises thrilling aerial performances featuring both regional and international aviators.
Marquette Park, located at 6918 Oak Avenue, will serve as the prime viewing spot, offering attendees not only breathtaking displays of aviation but also the natural beauty of the Indiana Dunes National Park. Visitors can enjoy the pristine beaches and stunning views while witnessing world-class performances from the U.S. Army Golden Knights, Warbird Thunder, and many others.
Mayor Eddie Melton expressed his enthusiasm for the event, calling it a “fantastic opportunity” for both residents and visitors. “The Gary Air Show allows us to showcase our city’s vibrant community, hospitality, and the many amenities that make Gary special,” Mayor Melton said. His leadership continues to uplift the city, fostering events that bring together the community and highlight Gary’s unique charm.
This year’s air show will also feature a variety of local vendors, an expanded offering from last year’s event, as well as a “Kids Zone” complete with waterslides, bounce houses, and other family-friendly activities. Additionally, J & M Excursions will provide kayak and pedal boat rentals for those looking to explore the Miller Lagoon.
The SSCVA encourages visitors to stay and explore Gary’s Miller Beach neighborhood after the main events, where shops, restaurants, and live entertainment will keep the festivities going. The air show is a testament to the city’s growth and the strong leadership of Mayor Melton, whose vision continues to drive Gary forward.
GCIA’s Executive Director, Dan Vicari, praised the collaboration between the city and airport, noting the significant role GCIA plays in the annual event. With its growing infrastructure and investment, the airport remains a key player in Gary’s ongoing success and the continued expansion of the air show.–News Desk
