MOSCOW: At least 10 people were injured after Russia said Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on the Moscow region in recent years, with authorities claiming that more than 400 drones targeted the capital overnight.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Russian air defense systems intercepted the majority of the drones before they reached the city, including 85 drones that were shot down while approaching Moscow.
Regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov said the overnight attack left 10 people injured, including three Chinese nationals. He added that falling drone debris damaged residential buildings, sparked several fires and affected civilian infrastructure in the districts of Podolsk, Domodedovo and Odintsovo.
Russian officials said air defense and electronic warfare systems were deployed to repel the large-scale assault, which state media described as one of the most significant drone attacks on Moscow in recent years.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces had carried out strikes in the Moscow region, saying the operation targeted logistics facilities and an oil depot located more than 400 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. He said the attacks were a response to continued Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Zelenskyy also claimed that Ukrainian forces struck two vessels from Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” and four cargo ships operating in the Black Sea.
According to Ukrainian monitoring channels, the targets included the Wildberries logistics hub in Koledino, the Yuzhnye Vorota logistics park in the Domodedovo district and an oil storage facility in the settlement of Lvovsky.
The latest exchange of long-range strikes underscores the continued escalation of the conflict, with both Russia and Ukraine increasingly targeting logistics, energy and infrastructure sites far from the front lines.
