Nawaz urges India to send cricket team to Pakistan

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif recently spoke out in favor of improving relations between Pakistan and India, suggesting that one way to achieve this could be for India to send its cricket team to Pakistan. Speaking to the media in London alongside his daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Nawaz pointed to the strained state of bilateral ties and emphasized that fostering better relations was essential for the benefit of both countries. He specifically referenced India’s refusal to send its team to the Champions Trophy, calling for India to reconsider and visit Pakistan for matches. He expressed that, despite current tensions, there is significant public desire in Pakistan to see the Indian cricket team play on its soil.

In addition to his remarks on India, Nawaz Sharif also touched on the broader issue of Pakistan’s foreign relations, particularly with the United States. He stressed the importance of Pakistan maintaining strong ties with its neighboring countries, especially the U.S., highlighting that although the historical relationship between the two nations had been strong in the past, there was now a need for further improvement. He called for both nations to work together to strengthen diplomatic relations, noting that such efforts are vital for the prosperity and security of both countries.

Furthermore, Nawaz condemned the recent attack on former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s car in London, describing it as a troubling reflection of a growing culture of disrespect and incivility. He expressed his dismay over how this culture was being fostered by the opposition party currently in power, criticizing their role in promoting such behavior. He also took issue with the involvement of young people in such disruptive activities, stating that they were being encouraged to chase vehicles and engage in disrespectful protests. Nawaz emphasized that if protests were necessary, they should be conducted in a more respectful and dignified manner, underscoring the need for civility in public discourse and political engagement.
