Omar Ayub, leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and opposition leader in the National Assembly, demanded the dismissal of the Punjab Inspector General (IG) of Police, IG Prisons, and the interior secretary following what he called illegal actions during his detention.
Ayub, along with other PTI leaders, had gone to meet party founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, in compliance with a court order. However, upon arriving at the jail at 2 p.m., they were delayed for six hours. Despite repeatedly asking for confirmation on the meeting, they were kept waiting.
Ayub also detailed how police officers forcibly grabbed one leader’s arm, and the vehicles of Ayub and fellow PTI leader Shibli Faraz were blocked and locked inside the checkpoint. The police claimed to have orders to arrest them. Ayub accused the officers of unlawful detention and vowed to file a case and bring the issue before Parliament and the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Shibli Faraz condemned the actions, calling it an assault on the Constitution of Pakistan, adding that PTI members were forcibly removed from their vehicles without explanation. The incident occurred after several PTI leaders, including Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, were briefly detained by Punjab Police for violating Section 144 while attempting to meet Imran Khan.
