Netanyahu opens meeting at counter terrorism unit base

Israel honors 50 years of counter terrorism unit service

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened a special government meeting on Sunday at the base of the Israel Police National Counter Terrorism Unit. The event marked 50 years since the unit was created.

In his remarks, Netanyahu praised the force as one of Israel’s strongest defenses. He said it has protected citizens through decades of complex threats. Moreover, he stressed that the unit continues to adapt with speed, precision, and advanced training.

By holding the meeting at the base, Netanyahu highlighted both symbolism and policy. The location, he explained, reflects the government’s commitment to supporting the unit while honoring its legacy.

The counterterrorism unit was founded in the 1970s in response to rising global terror. Since then, it has executed high-risk missions, partnered with international allies, and shaped Israel’s wider security strategy.

Furthermore, Netanyahu pledged to expand investment in technology, intelligence, and training. He added that this ensures the unit remains unmatched in effectiveness. Senior officials at the meeting echoed his words, praising the bravery of past and current members.

The Prime Minister concluded by saying the anniversary is both a celebration and a challenge. It honors the unit’s past victories, yet also reminds Israel of the need for constant readiness in the years ahead.
