Nigeria has signed a $1.2 billion deal with Chinese state-owned CNCEC to revitalize a key gas processing plant, a move aimed at boosting the country’s aluminium production. The deal, involving the BFI Group, will restore a 135 million standard cubic feet gas facility at the Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria. Gas Minister Ekperikpe Ekpo expressed confidence that this investment would help the smelter become a leading aluminium producer, both locally and internationally. The agreement strengthens the economic ties between Nigeria and China, which have been growing since 2016. Despite its oil wealth, Nigeria faces severe economic challenges, including high inflation and a devalued currency.
