Norway’s Crown Princess Apologizes Over Epstein Friendship

OSLO —
Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has issued a “profound apology” to the Norwegian public for her friendship with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Reports revealed that they exchanged messages for three years.

Apology to the Public and Royal Family

In a statement released by the palace, the Crown Princess said, “I also apologise for the situation in which I have placed the Royal House, especially the King and Queen.” She made the statement after several days of mounting pressure to address the issue.

King Harald V and Queen Sonja, both 88, have not publicly commented on the revelations.

Family Response

Crown Prince Haakon, speaking to reporters after a meeting between the King and Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on Friday, said that Mette-Marit wanted to speak on the matter but had been advised not to. “Right now she can’t, and I also tell her she is not allowed to,” he said.
