Five Workers Trapped After Power Plant Collapse in South Korea
Authorities in South Korea are racing to rescue five people believed to be trapped after a large structure collapsed at a power station in the southeastern city of Ulsan on Thursday. Four workers have already been pulled from the debris, officials said.
Massive Steel Structure Topples in Ulsan
Footage from the scene showed a massive steel framework mangled and lying on its side, surrounded by similar unfinished structures. Emergency teams rushed to the area as heavy equipment worked to clear the wreckage.
Workers Preparing for Demolition
Fire official Kim Jung-shik said the workers were dismantling parts of the decommissioned heating facility in preparation for its demolition, scheduled to take place within ten days. During the process, a section of the structure gave way, trapping several workers underneath.
Ongoing Rescue Operation
Two workers were rescued shortly after the collapse, followed by two more, according to Kim. Rescue teams continue to search through the rubble for the remaining trapped individuals. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse.
