Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif clarified on Friday that Bushra Bibi’s recent statement was taken “out of context.” The clarification came after her video message sparked controversy, in which she suggested that Saudi Arabia played a role in the removal of her husband, Imran Khan, as prime minister in April 2022.
Bushra had claimed that while Imran Khan visited Madina, the former army chief, General (retd.) Qamar Javed Bajwa, received calls from unnamed officials, criticizing Khan’s visit and launching a smear campaign against him. However, Barrister Saif emphasized that she did not accuse Saudi Arabia or Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of any wrongdoing, nor did she suggest that Riyadh contacted Bajwa.
Saif further stated that Bushra’s comments were personal and not the official stance of PTI, as she does not hold any position within the party. He also criticized the PML-N-led government for using the issue to deflect attention from PTI’s upcoming protest. Former army chief Bajwa also rejected the allegations, calling them “baseless” and stressing the importance of national interests.
